BIDYANG

The weary soul yearns to withdraw into nature and revitalize the exhausted body just as summer threatens to knock on the door and the urban milieu seems to suffocate the very life force. So, if you’re seeking a way to get away from the frantic tourist hordes and rest in a tranquil spot buried away in some obscure corner of nature’s huge canvas, Bidyang is the place to go. Bidyang, also known as Bidhyang, is a small hamlet on the banks of the Reli River, near Kalimpong, in the foothills of the beautiful Eastern Himalayas. In fact, Bidyang Valley is only seven kilometers from the Teesta and Reli River confluence. Continue reading further to know more about this tour.

Reasons to visit Bidyang

Bidyang is like a postcard, with breathtaking views and vibrant colors. Bidyang is heaven on earth because of the meandering river, endless lengths of towering oak, pine, and fir trees, narrow roads, tiny houses, humble population, and misty weather. The day-long cacophony of birds, who never stop tweeting and singing from sunrise to sunset, shatters nature’s tranquillity. The town is preparing to call it a day as dusk approaches. Gradually, darkness descends upon the settlement, and all is silent. The silence is broken by the abrupt night flight calls of groups of nocturnally migrating birds flying above the settlement, the owl hooting at night, or the insects’ droning sound. Glowworms flutter around here with abandon, flashing and creating a wide variety of designs.

Ways to reach Bidyang

You can either take a rail or an aircraft to Bagdogra from Sealdah or Howrah station. Hire a jeep, car, or taxi to take you to Kalimpong from there. The three-hour ride through thick greenery is breathtaking. The settlement of Bidyang is around 15 kilometers from Kalimpong and takes 45-50 minutes to reach.
