DAWAIPANI

Dawaipani is a Hawaiian word that means “healing water.” In the hills, there are a number of Dawaipani sources, some of which are hot water springs. The renowned Dawaipani settlement near Darjeeling is named after a natural spring in a nearby river. This beautiful hamlet is located at a height of nearly 6000 feet. It is about 20 kilometres from Darjeeling town, surrounded by Himalayan trees, and offers a spectacular view of Kanchenjunga and Darjeeling town.

 

Ways to reach dawaipani

Dawaipani is 75 kilometres from NJP, the closest rail station. The distance is 78 kilometres from Bagdogra airport. The NH 10 (Bengal-Sikkim Highway) and NH 110 (Siliguri-Darjeeling Highway) are both good options for getting here.

 

If you take the NH10 route, you’ll pass through the Teesta bazaar before heading uphill on Peshok road to a road crossing near the 6th Mile junction. If you’re driving from Jorebungalow, take the Peshok road to the same road crossing.

 

Spots to visit in dawaipani

Mount Kanchenjunga and Sandruptse Monastery are both visible from this off-the-beaten-path site. Lamahatta, a well-known tourist destination, is close by and is easily accessible from Dawaipani, taking around half an hour. Tourists can visit Darjeeling sightseeing because this hamlet is close to Darjeeling town, which is only an hour’s drive away. Tiger Hill, Ghoom Monastery, Batasia Loop, and Rock Gardens are among the sights they can visit. Along with shopping, a toy train ride is available.

 

As different types of Himalayan birds may be seen here, it’s a great place for lovers and photographers. Organic fruits and veggies are also available for purchase. Listening and watching locals dance and sing, which is a part of their heritage and culture, can be a fun way to spend an evening.
