Some important facts on Tinchuley
Tinchuley refers to three ‘Chullas,’ or ovens. Tinchuley is a small village near Darjeeling that has become well-known in recent years as a result of local residents’ efforts to promote community tourism. The Gurung family is leading the charge, having designed a homestay concept that is tailored to their needs.
Tinchuley has been designated as a model village by the WWF for its efforts to improve the environment of Darjeeling and its surrounding areas with active engagement from the local community. Tinchuley residents have conducted a number of environmentally friendly projects, including the construction of a forest nursery, floriculture projects, bio-compost manure projects, vermicompost projects, and many others.
The main draw of this community is its Home Hospitality, where visitors may sample bio-organic cuisine.
Ways to reach Tinchuley
The road via Teesta Bazar is the shortest if you are coming from the west, such as Kalimpong, Gangtok, or even Siliguri. Tinchuley is reached through an inconspicuous route with a hard rise from Teesta Bazar. The distance from Tista Bazar is only 15 kilometres.
If the steep hill is too much for you, you can take the alternative route through Rangli Rangliot Tea Garden and Takdah. Anyone travelling from the Dooars or Siliguri should take this route. The road begins near a village called Rambhi, some 12 kilometres before Tista Bazar, on National Highway 31A. Tinchuley is around 27 kilometres away from here.
If you’re coming from Darjeeling, you’ll take Peshok Road all the way to the 6th Mile.
